Facebook

 

Facebook is a popular social network that Mark Zuckerberg founded in 2004. Originally it was created for students of Harvard University, but most of the people can use it if they have an e-mail so they can be online. In this social network many people use it to share pictures, videos, feelings, information, and messages; they can also find a lot of friends and it’s very easy to add them because they can recognize them with pictures or their information.

 

The services that Facebook has are:

 

The friends list, which is when you want to add friends just send them a friend request and you have to wait for them to accept it, if they want to, and some contacts have mutual friends that are friends that you have; if you send a friend request  to someone that you don’t know, you enter to that contacts’ wall and there is an option that can delete the friend request, also if someone that you don’t know adds you and you don’t want to accept the friend request, you can do the same process to delete it.

 

Groups and pages, people can create pages in this social network to have fun, for business, or for publicity of any product, people using their own pages can share pictures, videos of youtube, information, and feelings; when we like pages of Facebook in home we can see news about them, but the owner or owners of those pages can’t see the information of any contact, they only see the contacts who liked the pages, or if some contacts are not private; in the case of the groups it is the same process like pages, but they’re between friends and groups and could be private, people select their favorite contacts in a group and they can name it like the pages.

 

Games and applications, those are entertainments for most of the people because people can choose any game in Facebook and play it, in the case of the applications people use them to answer questions, use the webcam so people can see their friends and talk each other or they can use applications to see which contacts are favorites.

 

Wall, is the profile of each contact that has information, for example, if you have Facebook and you have friends, they can write you in your profile, share pictures, videos of YouTube or their own videos, or friends can see your own pictures, feelings, videos of YouTube or other videos that someone filmed, your information, family,  and publications (when a friend publish you a picture, video, or a feeling) or tags (when a friend mentions you in a condition, or tags you in a picture, or video) that other friends did to you.

 

Advantages of Facebook

 

People can communicate with other people of many places of the world in the computer, cell phone, or iPods like distant relatives, or friends any time without paying money and they can save long distance calls, people could find old friends that they haven’t seen long time ago, or new friends that they want to meet and contact them, or relatives that they haven’t met before and could meet them besides this social network, also they can leave messages in inbox, or activate chat to talk with them any time they want.

 

Also by inbox you can show pictures, videos of YouTube or your own videos, or you just send messages about appointments, greetings, or important issues about something with contacts, sometimes friends answer you at the moment, or they can answer you later, but in inbox is a private conversation only if is with you and your contact; in some cases friends could send you with contacts that are mutual friends and their friends that you don’t have messages or other things, but if you’re not sure about those messages you just ignore them.

 

When you share pictures, videos of YouTube or your own videos that you’ve filmed, feelings, images, or situations some of your contacts can click the bottom “like” and/or can comment in that publication that you shared; also you can create an album of pictures and your contacts can do the same process; in home you can see also your contacts’ things and you could do the same things, like them and/or comment that publications.  

 

Disadvantages of Facebook

 

Facebook in not a private social network although you put your things (pictures, profile, information) in private because in the right corner of the screen contacts that you don’t have in your list of friends, but they have some of your friends can see if a friend of yours like or comment something yours; you have to private the cover picture at the moment so strangers can’t see you pictures with the comments.
