Teaching “Expectations: Be supposed to” to beginners







This level could have many kinds of students of any age (children, teenagers, or adults), and depending of the level of students, teachers will use some strategies to teach them this topic.





If the group is with children of elementary school, the teacher has to explain them each rule with examples so they will understand it better, but teachers should give their class with beautiful charts to make students interested in learning the different kinds of expectations, and also teachers could use the same strategies if they have to explain them with the computer, using games is the funniest strategy of teaching children because they learn unconsciously through games, teachers must give them the homework to keep them practicing and also are valid rewards if children make their homework.





In case of levels like junior high, high school and college, some of students of these levels could be insecure in learning, and participating, teachers must explain them each expectation step by step with examples, is not necessary decorative presentations, but the grammar presentation is very important to review it, apply some games, and teachers have to make them to participate so teenagers and adults could get this topic easier and students will lose fear of participating; teachers also have to suggest students some websites of English exercises with this topic so they could practice more.





Teaching “Expectations: Be supposed to” to intermediate





In this level some groups are with teenagers or with adults, the teacher can use the same strategies for both of them, first, make them read the grammar rules and the teacher explains step by step using their examples, but also the teacher ought to make students of any age participate telling or writing more examples depending of the teacher’s decision to see if students understood this topic, then, the teacher applies exercises of this topic to make them learn easier, after they finish the activities is valid playing games and at the same time reviewing every expectation.





Teaching “Expectations: Be supposed to” to advanced





Most of the students (teenagers or adults) in this level should know about these topic, in this case teachers could ask their students to read the grammar rules and make students to explain about each expectation, the difference of expectations, the structure of the sentence of each expectation, and also is valid their students’ and teachers’ help if they are wrong, also the could practice this topic in websites and with homework.

It’s very important to use “be supposed to” when we talk about expectations and we have to put it only in simple present or in simple past; in case of the simple present for the present or the future. Expectations are classified in:
